The Eure family is grateful and honored to partner with the Science and Technology Corporation to administer the Samuel L. Eure Guide to Hope Scholarship Program. It is our hope that through this program, we connect with students, in need, to support and increase racial diversity in the fields of Science and Math.
The Hope
The Samuel L. Eure Guide to Hope Scholarships are available to African American college students who are juniors or seniors enrolled in accredited four-year
colleges or universities located in Virginia. Applicants must be U.S. citizens with a minimum of a 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
Two scholarships of $1,000 are available for the 2019 academic year. The selection committee will award two students who demonstrate a financial need and are academically strong with proven leadership qualities and active community involvement.
Applicants meeting eligibility requirements for all parts of the application package will be considered. The committee reserves the right to make no scholarship award if it deems no submission properly fulfills the program considerations.
The Samuel L. Eure Guide to Hope Education Foundation was incorporated April 30, 2002 as a non-profit organization exclusively for charitable and educational use. The purposes of the foundation are as follows:

To maintain an organization which will create, develop, coordinate and execute The Samuel L. Eure Guide to Hope Scholarship Program for eligible rising junior and senior African American students pursuing undergraduate degrees in Science or Math
To encourage and assist educational activities that promote and support Science and Math curricula in the classroom or as a career by providing financial support and educational incentives
To promote and enhance the development of character, integrity, leadership and scholarship of students
To recognize and continue the legacy of its namesake,

The Samuel L. Eure Guide to Hope Education Foundation was created in loving memory of Samuel L. Eure, Sr. Eure was born in Gates County, North Carolina and reared in Portsmouth, Virginia. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from Virginia State University, the Degree of Master of Science in Physics from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School and the Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters from The Virginia Seminary & College.
After a 30-year Army career, he retired as a Colonel and joined the Science and Technology Corporation in Hampton, Virginia. In 1986, he was honored through the International Star Registry with a star named after him as a tribute, “The Samuel L. Eure Guide to Hope.”

The Application
Each applicant must submit the on-line Samuel L. Eure Guide to Hope Scholarship Application with the required documentation.
Required Documentation
A transcript must be submitted as documentation. Applicant must have a minimum of a 2.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
Two letters of recommendation – one from a current faculty member; one from an employer or extra-curricular contact
A financial need statement briefly explaining circumstances which contribute to the applicant’s need for financial assistance
A one-page type written essay discussing applicant’s current and future goals and intentions in the areas of Math and/or Science.
